2011 Totally Rocked. And 2012 is Looking Mighty Feisty!

Move Over Mexican Burrito! You’ve Met Your Match. (And Other Cool Stuff from 2011)

2012 is here and promises to be super sweet. I mean, it’s kicked off in a pretty stellar way, hasn’t it? But we can’t sweep 2011 under the rug just like that. (It’s too rude!). So we need to take one last look at it because it rocked hard in so many ways and brought so many cool new experiences. Like:

Getting My Coffee Buzz and Other Things On in Colombia:

South America is the best. The variety of the terrain, the diversity of the cultures, the amazing changes of climate and scenery in a short hour drive. Impressive! All of it. But Colombia’s got something the other countries don’t have. Pretty much everything in one sweet little spot. This big equatorial country straddles Central and South America and gives you both a Pacific Coast and a Caribbean Coast, a shared rain forest to the south with Peru and Brazil, the Andes Mountains, and a border with still-developing Ecuador and trouble-ridden Venezuela. Really, you can pretty much get anything you want here. Read more.

Publishing Totally Righteous Tales of Digestive Disorders, Aesthetic Assaults and Near-Death Experiences in the Far, Far East:

This is a non-fiction book of travel tales about finding yourself in a land that sports:

  • mirror-obsessed Korean dudes intent on checking out their own butts as much as possible,
  • hairstylists in hot pants & go-go boots who want to sculpt your hair into an orange, Carol-Brady-esque shag, &
  • tai chi masters who slip you poison – for your own good.

And those are just a few highlights of your far, far eastern adventure. Find out more.

And Kickin’ It For a Few in Costa Rica:

Move over Mexican burrito! You have been permanently replaced by the lusciously tasty, amazingly fresh and immensely satisfying Costa Rican version. I may never go back to refried beans again. In fact, this moment signified the death of a life-long love affair with the Mexican burrito, one that began with a childhood spent down South and a serious addiction to refried beans. An addiction fated to end just a mere few days ago when I encountered the authentic Costa Rican burrito. Read more.

Digging Into Some Deep Research in Latin America

Research is a blast! Better than just going to visit a place and hitting up the tourist spots, doing a full-on investigation of what really makes a country tick is one of my biggest passions in life. I dig into the politics of a place, I monitor the economics, I check out the social situation and I explore the dynamics of daily interactions and activities, which I did in Nicaragua, Peru and Colombia this year. Find out more about my research and check out the demographic study I did on a town in northern Nicaragua. Also look at my new website dedicated to examing the biggest issues in Latin America. I’m just getting started, so expect more action there in coming weeks.

Now it’s time to buckle up tight for the ride of 2012. Cuz I’m in a feisty, ass-kicking, trail-blazing kind of mood this year. Oh, yeah. I’m all over it!

Cheers and Happy Adventuring,
Sasha

PS: If you want to see a few cool shots of the Andes – all Peruvian-style – go here. Enjoy!
