Hi Mike,

Thanks for commenting! I think that's great. Nothing expands horizons like traveling and living around the world. Doing it while your children are still at home with you is an excellent choice -- it can change their whole perspective and give them fresh ideas on how they can plan and execute their own adventures in the future. Plus, once you find the way to make travel happen, whether it's finding work online or doing some freelance gigs, then you're all set. After that, it's all about managing your budget. Happy trails!

We can relate, well sort of. We had a semi-non-plan plan. In 2008 my wife and I decided to sell nearly everything we owned to take our three teenage sons around the world. The twins were 17 and our youngest was 15. We traveled for about a year to six continents, 22 countries and covered more than 61,000 miles. With only a few exceptions, we did not have a plan. We'd arrive in a town and my wife and I would look for a place to spend the night(s) and the boys would scout out places to eat, and grocery stores and markets. We finally hit our grove about three weeks into our odyssey and were operating like a well-oiled machine in each place we found ourselves. At one point we arrived in a town along the coast of Vietnam and had no idea where we were or the name of it. The legacy we have left with our sons (now 21 x 2 and 18) is to always be planning the next adventure, which they are.
